What can ads do for your business?
I’m a digital ads specialist. That’s what I offer through With Agency. But I think a better way of putting it is to describe myself as a business growth advocate. I enjoy playing a part in the success of other business owners and I have the skills to make that happen with the use of social media advertising.
To the uninitiated, ads can seem complex and overwhelming. Many businesses who would benefit from running campaigns aren’t aware of the ways they could use them to drive growth. So, I’m here to remind you that…
Ads don’t just sell more products
If you mention digital ads, the first thing that’s likely to come into someone’s mind is product promotion. We all see them every day (and many of us will have clicked on them and probably bought something as a result of them!). But this isn’t all ads can do, they can…
Help you find new customers
If you’ve spent time and money putting together a high converting website or landing page, it makes sense that you need to drive high quality traffic to it to achieve business growth. So how do you do this with ads? Well, it might look like audience testing – presenting the same content to different target groups to identify growth areas. Or combining those customer avatars you’ve created with using the algorithm to get your website seen by your ideal customers.
Get more users signing up
This could be sign ups for your newsletter or course waiting list, or it could be building the number of people using your app. Getting those figures up can make all the difference, particularly if you’re looking for investment or to secure a corporate contract; you’ll have subscriber targets to hit.
If you have an app you’re looking to scale, you can use ads to both directly encourage people to become new users and to raise awareness within early adopter groups or those who would be in a position to provide access to your platform to those they work with.
Create fans through social proof
You can have the best product or service in the world but if you have a small customer base then you not only need to get the word out to a wider audience but you also need to make a lasting impression. That moment of conversion doesn’t come easily, no matter how good your offering is. One approach that can get people over the line is serving them content that shows people they identify with or find aspirational using your product or service. You can build awareness with a striking video and then double down to retarget people who watched the video with a tailored offer or a sales ad featuring user generated content (unboxing videos and testimonials work well here!).
AND they can give your sales a boost!
Having said this isn’t all ads can be used for, it’s obviously still an important function! Whether the focus is encouraging new customers, nurturing repeat customers or working to increase average order value, ads can do a lot of hard work on your behalf. The benefit of ad campaigns being totally flexible is that we can test what works and what doesn’t – you can play around with multiple audiences, types of copy and ad objectives.
The information available in places like Ads Manager lets you work out exactly which bit of your sales funnel people are dropping out from. Once you know what’s not working, you can tweak to optimise it and hold on to as many of your potential customers as possible right up to the point of purchase. Once those customers are locked in you can achieve greater uplift by offering bundles or promoting add-on purchases.
Use ads as part of a holistic marketing approach
There is no one-size-fits all solution, but most businesses would feel a positive impact from using targeted social ads. Whether you’re looking to encourage sign ups or grow your mailing list, drive traffic to your site or launch a new product, getting your business in front of the right audience will help you get results.
